“I just spent a wonderful week in an indian family home stay in the old village of Khajuraho. Sharing the life of this so kind family : “old” mama cooking great vegan food helped by daughter, having great tips from the two sons of where to walk, eat, see. Invited at lunch in a small organic farm where vegies were cooked on dirt fire, yoga on the terrasse…. And very very cheap nice clean rooms. Only two rooms for rent.. Hot warm water at shared bathroom… Real India + safe and perfect.” (François, France – January 2020)

“Overlooking a beautiful lake, Vio & Vijay’s residence was at the heart of a Khajuraho village that made it perfect to explore and experience the local life. Morning walks are a must as you get to witness a flurry of activities, from fishing to school going kids, goat shepherds, and friendly villagers who strike up conversations like old pals. Other attractions and the famed Khajuraho group of temples are reasonably nearby as well. The hosts themselves, are warm, good-natured people, who really treat their guests like family. They readily share their personal stories and make for good company after a long day of sightseeing. And, they are humble, honest folks trying (and succeeding!) to make a difference for their community through various educational initiatives. The hosts assisted with pickup from the railway station and graciously gave us access to a room as we arrived early in the morning. Our room was spacious, well-equipped, clean, comfortable and really pretty! The shared washroom was also very clean and we always had hot water. Home-cooked meals were available, and we had breakfast on 2 occasions. It is best to inform the hosts earlier though, if meals are required. In addition, the hosts made recommendations of cultural performances, answered all our touristy questions (even before we made the booking) and helped make transport arrangements to both Orchha and Lucknow. We could not have asked for better hosts (friends, really!) who made our first visit to Khajuraho truly memorable. This place is highly recommended; I know I would stay here again in a heartbeat!” (Raani, India – March 2018)

“Our stay at Friends in Khajuraho was excellent, made all the better by Vijay’s hospitality, help and impeccable service. He is very easy to talk to and will make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. I really felt that he went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed including making travel arrangements for us and booking train tickets. If customer service is important to you as well as genuine human caring, Vijay is your man. He also supports the local community with initiatives to protect the environment, clean up litter and empowers them to make an income. We thoroughly recommend staying here.” (Max, UK – January 2018)

“I don’t have the words to say how beautiful it has been here in Khajuraho. They welcomed me as a family member, as a daughter, as a sister, as a friend. They took care of me when I was feeling sick, Mummy with her food full of love and Sister with her beautiful smile. I really want to thank Ravi, excellent guide and wonderful person! Please come, you will never forget.” (Laura, Sardinia – July 2016)

“Very nice people, kind and helpful in all conditions. Ravi is an excellent guide and has a friendly mind. Great family” (Sebastiao, Portugal – March 2016)

“Already when we arrived there was a sense of something very special in this place. And it wouldn’t take long for us to understand why – the following days (only three – much too short) we found ourselves among amazing, friendly people that just adopted us as part of their wonderful family. We couldn’t have had a better time, just perfect.” (Christoph & Antje, Germany – March 2016)

“We spent a very nice weekend here and enjoyed a lot the tours with Ravi and sharing time with the family. We will keep an excellent souvenir of our visit in Khajuraho!” (Harold, France – March 2016)

“Enjoyed my stay, as it was really very homely. The family members gave a lot of warmth and affection. As personally, it’s important for me to feel secure while travelling solo.” (Rajbir, India – March 2016)

“Thank you to Ravi & family for a lovely two days. We have been in India for 10 days and stayed at many boutique hotels which were many times more expensive. Without a doubt, your homestay was the most relaxing, friendliest and spotlessly clean. Really and truly better than any place we have stayed at. Thank you also to Mum for the lovely food.” (Lenka & Merritt, USA – February 2016)

“Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality you have shown us. Sharing with you was such a homely and comfortable experience, the essence of what a homestay should be. It made a big difference to us, instead of the usual hotel experience, and we were able to explore and enjoy Khajuraho just the way we wanted to. Keep up the good work. We shall surely return, with our family next time!” (Anuradha, Mumbai – 29 December 2015)

“You know how to make good friends you won’t forget? Come to Khajuraho and stay at Friends in Khajuraho!” (Victor, Brazil/Portugal – November 2015)

“This was our first time in india and we tried many ways to book hotels, and Friends in khajuraho was definitely a big surprise for us. Vio and Vijay and also their friends were so friendly to us. They took us to all the temples in khajuraho, helped us book tickets and taxi, shared stories with us, and also cooked some nice food for us. The good thing about home stay is that you can experience the real local life and Vio & Vijay showed us a real good example. Highly recommended if you are coming to this magical little town.” (Mason & Jane, China – September 2015)

“Hope to come back soon and share more with this unique family, always the “best” friends in Khajuraho.” (Patrizia, Italy – September 2015)

“Beautiful evenings watching the sunset over the lake, people gather on the temple and the buffalo roam… all from balcony of this delightful house! Ravi, Mummy and all the family looked after us so well and were great company. Our room was comfortable and very clean and the shower was fantastically cold (a good thing as the temperature was well into the 40’s!) Not to mention the cow dung chapatis – a culinary highlight! Thank you!” (Zoe, Australia – June 2015)

“Thanks a lot for making our trip so memorable guys. Enjoyed every bit of time spent with you two, from listening to the heartfelt story under the star-lit sky to sharing the beautiful view from uphills. Vio, your music was a respite on this hot summer afternoon. The food was delicious! Can’t wait to get back here soon, for a longer duration perhaps and to have some more fun with our “Friends in Khajuraho”. Lots of luck and love to you guys. Looking forward to seeing you again.” (Palak, India – May 2015)

“A very nice time with Vijay and Vio. They were very available and listened to our lifestyle and wishes, which made this trip to Khajuraho a very intense and peaceful moment at the same time. The joy of the family is communicative and the food excellent. A big thank you for this time of sharing.” (Philippe, France – April 2015)

“Such a nice time in Khajuraho. Not only because of the beautiful temples but most of all for the time we spent with the family. It was so good to be in an old village (so quiet and ‘shanti’), far from big cities and out of time. This was a proper home stay experience and I loved it. Thank you.” (Clément, France – April 2015)

“I have stayed with this wonderful family for 3 months! They have made these 3 months much easier, and when you’re for a longer period so far from home and your family and friends it’s very nice to be surrounded by a family. It was a great experience which I won’t forget, and a start for a long friendship! I wish you all the best! Thank you!” (Jessy, Belgium – April 2015)

“What a beautiful stay in Khajuraho! So nice to stay with Friends in Khajuraho – in a very lovely and welcoming atmosphere! I had some beautiful motorcycle trips to the countryside with Ravi. Very enjoyable. I hope I will have the opportunity to come back with more time.” (Jan, Germany – February 2015)

“Ravi and Aunty were the sweetest people I came across in Khajuraho. They were very helpful and concerned with comfort and commute. The antique shop right next to my room was very unique and worth visiting. It felt like home more than a hotel.” (Abhijeet, India – December 2014)

“After travelling through Kerala, Mumbai and Rajasthan we enjoyed the quiet and peaceful atmosphere here in Khajuraho, especially of this place. For the first time we felt really welcome by these heartily, interesting and joyful people!!! We enjoyed their company – thanks to Bhaiya and Ravi, their informative and funny explanations!! Playing cards and cricket, and enjoyed the wonderful food. So we’re happy and thankful that we found this place to stay!” (Ingrun & Markus, Germany – December 2014)
